Well, I have been in San Francisco for just under a day, and I like it!
We got into town Saturday afternoon after a very early start in London, followed by a very long flight. After a rather huge burger and a couple of beers on the Castro, we were pretty much done for the day.
An early night and a nice lie in has done wonders.
After late morning coffee and picking up travel passes for the week, we headed back up to the Castro for brunch. I’m liking the trams/trolleys/streetcars/whatever I’m supposed to call them.
I was recommended a place called Luna by somebody online, and it was worth the wait for a table.
Huge orange juice and bottomless coffee, with a tasty eggs benedict has set us up for the day. The place is very California: outdoor eating area in a courtyard with canapies and space heaters, and the most comfortable outdoor eating chairs I have had the pleasure to sit in anywhere.
NOTE TO SELF: Return again before the end of our trip to sample the bucket sized mimosas!
More soon no doubt….
That’s it! No more work for 2 weeks.
Just home from work and picking up bags, then heading over to the boys place.
We fly to Californ-I-A in the morning.
I hope to be able to post while I am away, when I have time in between having too much fun that is.
If not, then I will have many updates when I get back.
Cya in 2 weeks.
I never know the answer to this one….
Too little and you end up trying to do laundry too often while away, and that just feels wrong somehow - too un-holiday like.
Too much and you are carrying unnecessary weight, and it leaves less room for holiday buys.
I think I will sleep on it….
I can’t believe it!
It’s pissing it down again!
This HAS to be the wettest summer on record!
I can’t actually remember the last hot spell we had!
Has the gulf stream moved or something?
Can someone from the met office please offer us some information?
I’m just hoping northern California is a little bit warmer, despite its fogs and temperate climate.
Sod’s Law: Defn. - Suddenly coming down with a cold when you are going on a very needed holiday to California in less than 5 days.
I’m hitting it with everything I can think of…. Chicken soup…. Lemsip Cold & Flu Hot Lemon with added honey…. Vitamin C…. Lots of fluids…. gonna get an early few nights.
Any other suggestions?
That’s it! No more! All done! I’m officially discharged!
I went to my land based physio appointment on Friday, and they have said that apart from some exercises I can do myself, I do not have to go to physio any more.
I have almost complete mobility and rotation back in my shoulder. There’s no more pain.
They have given me some more exercises to do to strengthen the muscles around my shoulder that are weak. I am supposed to either get some dumbbells or join a gym and work on my upper body to even things out again.
Basically, I’m all healed!
I can start throwing again in a couple of weeks as long as I have done my exercises and don’t over do it.
As long as I take it easy and don’t do anything silly and don’t do too much too soon…. I will be playing softball again next year!
Yay!
Oh dear….
So bad…. it’s fantastic!
A Dutch-Irish collaboration - now why am I not surprised to hear that?

Yes…. it’s for real!
Not a segment from Banzai, but something that has bugged me for years….
Why is most gay club music such utter utter utter poop?
I was at a club last Saturday, albeit not my first choice of place to go, but a place of good memories nonetheless….
I was given a promotional CD at the time which I have only just got around to listening to.
Now one would expect that the music on such a promotional CD would be the best stuff that this particular venue was serving up at the moment, or at least something a bit cutting edge - thus making one want to return, or hopefully encouraging new punters who hear the CD to turn up there.
Logic huh?
Then why is this CD full of lowest common denominator, dated sounding, badly produced, one trick pony, unchallenging crap?
I feel like shaking the owner and screaming at him until he lets go of 3 years ago and moves on.
This isn’t the first place that got stuck in a rut and seemed unable to move with the times, which is why it amazes me - are gay clubs fated to repeat the mistakes of their forbears?
Will somebody please explain their logic to me please? I’m baffled!
Have just rediscovered Portishead in my music collection and have fallen in love all over again.
I have several Smart Playlists set up in my iTunes - one of which lists all tracks that I have listened to at least once, but have not listened to for 1 year. I do this to rediscover music that would otherwise get buried under the weight of newer stuff that I add to my music library - hence re-finding Beth and the boys.
It is 10 years since ‘Portishead’ came out and 13 since ‘Dummy’ - and although the trip-hop thing diminished by the late 90s, I still love these 2 albums.
There is something beautiful yet disturbing about Beth Gibbons’ voice, and set against the darkness of many of the arrangements it both soothes and disquiets me - appealing to the darker side of my nature.
Pretentious claptrap? Maybe…. but listen for yourself, it ain’t all cheery in Portishead’s world.
OK .... So I don't live that high up anymore.
I moved. I miss the view loads, but I don't miss the stairs if the pissy lifts break, or some of the neighbours (see pissy lifts).
I kept the name 200feet cos I liked it - so sue me!
Plus some would say I have one or two views of my own - cue 200feet.com.

Randomness suggests....
Love is a snowmobile racing across the tundra and then suddenly it flips over, pinning you underneath. At night, the ice weasels come.
