Click the image above if your fancy might be tickled by the free download of an mp3 mix featuring some of the tracks from Kylie’s new album ‘X’.
It’s worth a listen, even if its only for the sake of curiosity….

Attended the above Music Tank seminar this evening.
Controversial and interesting indeed!
There seems still to be a huge difference of opinion between the people who make and publish music and the people who exploit it as a means to make money.
Yet ideally, should it not be a synergistic relationship? The music makers and publishers needing the marketeers and platform developers to distribute their work in new areas; and the marketeers and platform developers needing the content to exploit (and here I use the term exploit without the negative overtones with which it is often attributed).
No quick answers, but I will say this…. It’s an interesting time to be getting into the music business with all the advances in technology and the new markets that open up as a result.
Goddammit!
Mum’s birthday arrives and the card I posted last week has not arrived yet.
I was obviously under the mistaken impression that the postal service would be back to ‘normal’ by now after the postal strike.
Evidently 3 days for first class post is ‘normal’ these days.
I also seem to be turning into a grumpy old man!
Now where are my slippers….

Went to a mates party on Saturday night only to come face to face with Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Thankfully, it was a fancy dress Halloween party and Oogie was another mate of mine, who rightfully won the costume competition. Having friends in theatre does tend to mean being upstaged at such events - so no surprise really that one of them had best costume. It has to be said that it was a fab costume - good work Simon.
The house also looked great all spookied up with its carpet of leaves, sound effects and spooky lighting.
Was a great night - lots of beer and dancing and entanglements with the copious amounts of cobweb that was strewn around the place. Cheers Adam and housemates for hosting a great night.

The Wire is 25!
There was free Tiger beer, free wine, free canapes and free birthday cake at the 25th birthday party last night in Shoreditch Town Hall - what more could a body want from a party?
How about a dose of typically ‘The Wire’ live music?
We got that too!
2 sets from Clive Bell and Sylvia Hallett - the former playing various far eastern wind instruments - the latter playing violin and saw through various bits of electronics.
Ignoring the typically industry crowd, who were making a slightly rude amount of noise during each performance, I liked what I heard. Sometimes haunting, at other times noisy bordering on challenging, but always intriguing. I liked the fact that the pair were embracing new technology in sampling and looping sounds on the fly, with Sylvia almost beat boxing at times to create percussion sounds.
I may have to find out a little more about this pair….

…. IT’S ONLY 2 MONTHS TO CHRISTMAS!
You have been warned!

Over the last 2 years in my old job I have worked a slightly later shift than the norm, so the tube was quietening down by the time I made my journey home.
These last few days at my new job have seen me leaving work between 1700 and 1730 - and what a shock to my system it has been!
Oxford Circus tube station at that time of the evening is just fucking CRAZY!
So many people trying to get down a staircase obviously designed in a time of lower population density, and so many of those people intent on pushing and shoving their way through as though at risk of losing their dinner to the dog.
Chill out people!
I may have to consider alternative routes, or I might find myself being recommended for commuter rage counselling.

Well, I arrived on time, I remembered the paperwork I needed to take in, I was able to remember my way back to the office after lunch, I got my email and other required systems up and running by the end of the day, went through some training and got a bit of work done - I’d call that a successful 1st day in my new job.
The people are really nice, and while the atmosphere is more laid back than I have been recently used to, there is a general feeling that everyone has their job to do and gets on and does it.
They certainly made me feel welcome.
All good so far….

Well, much as I hate to admit it, I do think that the best team on the night won.
There will be much debate today and probably for some time over Mark Cueto’s disallowed try - was he or wasn’t he in touch?
But the fact remains that the decision was made and is final - South Africa are World Cup Champions.
Even with the try being allowed and a successful conversion we still would have needed 3 more points to win, and South Africa were just not allowing us the territory to get within range of Jonny Wilkinson’s boot.
South Africa also looked more organised throughout the game, especially at the line out.
However, England have nothing to be ashamed of. They stuck with it and kept digging right until the end, and I think have silenced some of the critics who lambasted them in the earlier stages of this tournament.
Not a pretty match, but certainly a tense one!
Ah well, we can try again in New Zealand in 4 years.
