Bjork Declares Independance in Sydney
The show looks amazing!
She is definitely raising her flag, higher and higher (sorry - couldn’t resist).
Can’t wait until we get to see it in April here in London!

Brussels City Hall…. above by night, and below by day….
Spent last weekend in Brussels from Saturday afternoon until Monday evening.
My first visit there, and I enjoyed it very much.
The Christmas Fair was lovely. The Belgian Beer did flow. I can recommend the local Beef Carbonnade. Mussels and frites were also tasty. The chocolate goes without saying.
What I really liked was the atmosphere of Christmas all over the place. The Grand Place is the focus with the light show on the city hall, which I think was built in the 1600s. As you can see above it is quite spectacular, by day or night.
I definitely want to go back, and at 1 hour 51 minutes via Eurostar from London’s St Pancras international station, I think it’s a distict possibility.
Here we have Kroungrine - the 4th full length album from Skam Records mainstay Bola.
It is lush, involving and beautifully produced as anyone who has heard Bola previously will expect.
For me nobody else compares in the lushness stakes - this is how blissed out electronica should be.
The album naming convention continues. Can the uninitiated spot the link?
Bola - Soup
Bola - Fyuti
Bola - Gnayse
Bola - Kroungrine
I can heartily recomend any of the Bola catalogue, in fact why not pick up anything this guy touches? His side project Jello is slightly more angular, vocal, and a little less lush - but does not suffer for the difference.
Kick back, relax, and enjoy Bola….
Saw this guy support The Books at The Queen Elizabeth Hall here in London some time ago. His set ranged from the mellow and melodious to the downright berserk - it was fab!
It’s a quirky album, but it has grown on me very quickly so give it a listen.
The more I find out about this guy the more interesting he becomes. He works not just with music, but also in film and graphic design.
Google him or check his Wikipedia entry to find out more….
I am proud to say I know this fella - I used to share a flat with his big brother.
Denis Jones’ performances are quite something, and seeing as he is playing up an down the country at the moment you have the perfect opportunity to find out. His gig schedule is listed on his MySpace page.
I will be going to his show on the 23rd November when he supports Efterklang at Bush Hall here in London.
You can pick up his album ‘Humdrum Virtue’ on iTunes, or from his labels online store at Humble Soul.
I hope this guy goes a long way, I am a big fan of quirky songwriters and Denis is not only a very talented one of those, but is a top guy to boot.
If you do nothing else today, have a listen to the tracks ‘Third Song’ and ‘17′, and watch the live video on MySpace.
Lovin’ yer work, Denis.
Click the image above if your fancy might be tickled by the free download of an mp3 mix featuring some of the tracks from Kylie’s new album ‘X’.
It’s worth a listen, even if its only for the sake of curiosity….
The Wire is 25!
There was free Tiger beer, free wine, free canapes and free birthday cake at the 25th birthday party last night in Shoreditch Town Hall - what more could a body want from a party?
How about a dose of typically ‘The Wire’ live music?
We got that too!
2 sets from Clive Bell and Sylvia Hallett - the former playing various far eastern wind instruments - the latter playing violin and saw through various bits of electronics.
Ignoring the typically industry crowd, who were making a slightly rude amount of noise during each performance, I liked what I heard. Sometimes haunting, at other times noisy bordering on challenging, but always intriguing. I liked the fact that the pair were embracing new technology in sampling and looping sounds on the fly, with Sylvia almost beat boxing at times to create percussion sounds.
I may have to find out a little more about this pair….
This Saturday @ Hidden in Vauxhall.
See the Binary website for more info.
Check out the podcast on the site for a taster.
See you there….
Well, Radiohead fans did it again!
The In Rainbows website came grinding to a halt last night, assumedly under the weight of demand for the new release.
Frustratingly enough, it died altogether just as I was trying to download the album, and although I tried again several times during the evening, I was left musicless and wanting - awwwwww!
However, all was well in my musical world this morning when I got up, and within 15 minutes I was the proud owner of 1 digital download of In Rainbows.
My journey to work ended about halfway through the album, so no doubt there will be more to say later when I have listened to it in its entirety.
Thank Jobsie for the iPod!
The seventh studio album from Radiohead is set for release on October 10th…. but with a huge twist.
Radiohead have fulfilled their contractual obligations to their label, and are releasing this album themselves - and initially it will only be available from the band directly by download!
Weirder still the band are allowing the customer to decide what price to pay to download the album! Yes, you did read that right, you decide the price!
Later in the year there will be a release of a disc box containing a CD of the album, an enhanced extras CD, digital photos, some artwork, 2 heavyweight vinyls of the album, and also allows you to have the digital download too. The price is fixed at £40 but seems well worth it as the disc boxes are made to order and ships free.
You can pre-order both digital and box set now by visiting their site - click the artwork above.
There is also talk of a deal to make a physical release of the album sometime next year, but it may only be in terms of distribution.
Now there is much debate as to whether the ramifications of this move are positive or negative, and there are too many arguments for me to consider here fully (online licensing, royalty collection, publishing, copyright, knock on effect on smaller bands etc.)…. But my overall opinion so far is that it’s a very good thing!
I suspect that there are a few fat cat music execs in need of new underwear right now.
Maybe this will see the majors dragged kicking and screaming into this century, and force them to review their stranglehold on the industry.
I salute you Radiohead, ballsy indeed!
