No more physio

That’s it! No more! All done! I’m officially discharged!
I went to my land based physio appointment on Friday, and they have said that apart from some exercises I can do myself, I do not have to go to physio any more.
I have almost complete mobility and rotation back in my shoulder. There’s no more pain.
They have given me some more exercises to do to strengthen the muscles around my shoulder that are weak. I am supposed to either get some dumbbells or join a gym and work on my upper body to even things out again.
Basically, I’m all healed!
I can start throwing again in a couple of weeks as long as I have done my exercises and don’t over do it.
As long as I take it easy and don’t do anything silly and don’t do too much too soon…. I will be playing softball again next year!
Yay!

Last London Raiders Blue league match of 2007

Felt a bit blue tonight - as tonight was my teams (London Raiders Blue) last league match of the year.
I am well pleased that they have won our division of the league, they’ve played a blinder of a season, but I am also a little sad that I have not been able to play this year and be part of it.
Bitter-sweet indeed.
Still, my recovery continues to be good after the surgery, almost full mobility back in my shoulder now, and the physio is helping loads.
Promotion to the next division should mean new challenges for next year, and I plan to be part of continuing success.
Go Raiders Blue for 2008!

I’m free and improving daily!

As I mentioned in yesterdays rather rambling post about my up and down day, my land based physiotherapist finally said I can stop using the arm brace I have been in for the last 10 weeks.
Sooooooo pleased about that!
Today, I had another hydrotherapy session and my hydrotherapist is also very pleased with my progress - and in fact, seems rather surprised by my progress and my increased mobility in my shoulder.
My shoulder is a little stiff and sore after 2 more intensive sessions on consecutive days, but it feels really good to be using it and exercising it again - ‘no pain….. no gain’, as they say.
Lots of exercises to do in between sessions, and we are continuing with 2 sessions per week for the next few weeks - so more info as it happens….

A big dipper of a day….

What? Never heard of a big dipper of a day? Lots of ups and downs? No? OK - I shall elaborate so you have a frame of reference….
0700 : Alarm goes off. Early for me - normally up at 0815. Boooooo!
0830 : Arrive at hospital for hastily arranged physio appointment after hydro appointment is cancelled due to imbalance of chemicals in pool. Boooooo!
0850 : Physiotherapist announces that I no longer need the arm brace I have been wearing for the last 10 weeks! YAAAY!
0855 : Physiotherapist manipulates shoulder into position that would have been uncomfortable and risked dislocation before my surgery - but no pain and shoulder felt stable. YAAAY!
1030 : Arrive at work. Boooooo!
1230 : Had unpleasant exchange with idiot boss over something beyond my control that I needed help with, but he went into rant in front of whole office over, thus making me feel stupid and worthless - AGAIN! Boooooo!
1350 : Receive email from Picnicbear/daddy about hotel bookings for trip to California in 5 weeks - looks fab! YAAAY!
1500 : Budget review meeting with idiot boss, which begins with dissection of mornings unpleasant exchange - thus setting a great tone for rest of meeting. Boooooo! Although as part of discussion it turns out that Chips blew top at idiot boss, telling him a few home truths, partially in defence of my honour. YAAAY!
1645 : Budget review meeting ends. YAAAY!
1715 : Have proper look at email about California hotel bookings - it looks even more fab. YAAAY!
1900 : Leave work. YAAAY!
1945 : Beers, burgers, reassurance and cheering up from Picnicbear/daddy @ Lowlander. YAAAY!
2230 : Call from Chips informing me that the London Raiders Blue team kicked some Tornado butt, winning their softball league match in style. GO RAIDERS BLUE! YAAAY!

Getting the picture?
The day finished off much better than I thought it was going to in the middle.
Feeling a little drained though, so gonna hit the sack in a sec.
I guess all’s well that ends well.

Level 50 - at last I meet my Felguard!

World of Warcraft
Just hit level 50 with my warlock Tugsumbranos - and finally got to summon my new pet demon felguard Shaatom.
He kicks ass - and is kinda cute in a demonic kinda way…. click the thumbnail below - thats him on the right!
Tugsumbranos & Shaatom
Had a 2 month break after my surgery cos it hurt too much to play - but just gone up 3 levels in less than a week to hit this milestone.
Yay me!

Chunk - The Return

Well it must have been a good night on Friday - because I still have a hangover and its now Sunday afternoon.
Chunk has moved from its old home to Area in Vauxhall, and I think its a good move. It was certainly very busy.
I also enjoyed it immensely as it was my first night out in the 6 weeks since my op. Although it seems my tolerance for alcohol is somewhat diminished - I was bladdered by the time I headed home.
Go check Chunk out - It’s definitely the Friday night bear social that it promises to be.

Oh yeah…. Hydro

Finally, I started my hydrotherapy program, and it was actually really good.
The pool is at a very comfortable 34°C and I was amazed at how good it felt to have the brace off, and be able to move my arm around supported by the water.
Your buoyancy means that you can exercise the relevant part of your body with most of the pressure and gravity taken off it.
I was amazed by how much more mobility I had in my shoulder than I expected.
More than that though, it felt like I was actually starting to make some progress other than sitting around and waiting for things to heal on their own.
I am scheduled to have 1 or 2 hydro sessions per week for the next 3 or 4 weeks, until I have enough strength to do some more land based work.
More soon….

Ah well, Sunday night again!

How do the weekends pass so quickly? My weekend has been rather on the quiet side.
Stayed home Friday evening, whilst the world and his wife were out on the town.
Spent Saturday morning reducing the seemingly endless pile of washing I somehow amassed.
Saturday afternoon was lost catching up on the sleep I am still missing due to my patchy sleep at night. (The arm brace is still on and I still wake up 2 or 3 times a night due to being uncomfortable)
Dinner and Dr Who with my boys was pleasant enough on Saturday evening, although over altogether too soon as I had to get the bus home.
My Sunday was unusual in that I spent over 4 hours re-forecasting a budget on a rather complex spreadsheet for work tomorrow - hardly fair as it is time I am unlikely to either be paid for, or get back in lieu - but as I am unable to get more than a few minutes at a time of unbroken concentration in the office it seemed a necessary evil.
With my brain suitably fried I then escaped to the pub for a bite to eat, a few drinks, and some decidedly more pleasant company than the numbers on my screen.
To be honest it hardly feels like a weekend at all, and at the risk of seeming to whine, it has started to feel like I have been put on hold - obviously, as a necessary period of recovery after my shoulder surgery, but also by some people around me too - what I have to work out is if I am happy to be put down, and then picked up again when I am more convenient….

I’m back!

Hello again all - I have returned. Don’t all cheer at once!
Almost a week and no blogging - how very dare me?
Had a very of a shitty week - but things on the up and up.
Shoulder feels better every day and I am due to start my physio properly on Monday next week.
Work still sucks like work has never sucked before, but I have reached the point where I no longer care as it is nothing I can control. It’s just a job, and I am ready to apply for something else be it internal or external - time to move on.
So basically - normal service has resumed. yay!

Red hot and blue.

Bit of a warm spell here in London, and it’s kinda nice, but only up to a point…. the arm brace makes the warm weather pretty uncomfortable and sticky.
Feeling a bit crappy this evening to be honest.
I miss normality - bathing and showering normally; travelling around on the tube/bus without constantly watching for the idiot who might bump into me; using a knife and fork; being able to lie flat in bed and sleeping more than a few hours at a time without waking up; softball; proper hugs; cuddles; Sunday mornings; my boys.
It’s only been 16 days, and it’s only going to be another 12 days until the brace comes off, so I feel like I shouldn’t moan. I know there are people far worse off and it’s only for 4 weeks altogether, and the long term gain is worth it - but today I feel pretty fed up and blue.
Lowest day of the process so far!
